A birthday is not a birth weekday

Two similar-sounding facts answer different questions.

The date you celebrate

A birthday usually means a month and day that returns each year. You can compare those recurring dates without knowing anyone’s age. For a permanent calendar-group comparison, the year of birth is not needed.

The day someone was born

An original birth weekday is tied to a complete date, including the year. Someone born on June 29 in one year and someone born on August 24 in another year may have different original birth weekdays, even though their recurring birthdays share a permanent weekday pattern within each calendar year.

Why wording matters

If a result says that two birthdays remain linked, it should not casually add that the people “were born on the same day of the week.” The second claim needs a separate calculation using both birth years and a verified date for each person. One result cannot stand in for the other.

Share only what is needed

For a friend comparison, month and day are enough. Leaving out birth years avoids asking for information the calculation does not need. If you later choose to explore original birth weekdays, treat that as a distinct optional question and explain why the additional information is requested.
